Benson's injury is not serious, but he will be limited in practice this week. The hip injury is an "abductor strain" that Benson suffered in Week 9 and caused him to be limited heading into Sunday's tilt with the Steelers. The Bengals are adamant that Larry Johnson's addition doesn't mean Benson is in danger of sitting out. His ability to recover quickly will determine his status at Oakland.

I picked him up off waivers earlier this season, he has been a huge surprise to me. but I am going to sit him, dont think they need him and will probably rest him or limit his touches

Benson's teammates have also said they would be surprised if he plays. LaCanfora's source says Larry Johnson has received plenty of practice reps and could see a "significant role" at Oakland. We remain skeptical that LJ will have much of an impact and believe that Bernard Scott is the back to start in fantasy leagues as a RB2/flex this week.

Coach Marvin Lewis said Wednesday that Benson "seems to be very close" to returning after missing Week 11, but it appears he may be "eased" back into the lineup. Scott did earn more of a role with 151 yards on 24 touches last week at Oakland. Still, we wouldn't hesitate to start Benson in fantasy leagues against Cleveland's No. 29 run defense if he's active. Scott may only be used as a change of pace back, perhaps handling some third downs.

Benson missed his second straight practice Thursday, increasing Bernard Scott's chances of drawing the start against Cleveland's No. 29 rush defense. We're now leaning towards predicting Benson will be inactive Sunday, but he's officially a game-time decision. Check back Friday for another update.

"I thought he was close to being able to play last week and obviously he's ready to play now," Lewis said. "I'll make a decision. I don't have any doubts that he's ready to play." The question now becomes whether the Bengals want to risk Benson aggravating the hip injury he's already aggravated once in a home game against the lowly Browns. He's still a game-time decision.

For some reason I'm still going to play Bernard Scott. Not buying that Benson has recovered yet.

Benson sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday this past week but practiced on a limited basis on Friday. The Bengals have been noncommittal all week regarding Benson after he missed last week's loss to the Raiders. It's a good matchup for him against the Browns' No. 29 rush defense.

Despite late-week optimism, Benson was not on the field for warmups. Bernard Scott is a high-end RB2 against a Cleveland defense that allows the second most fantasy points to opposing backs. WLB Keith Rivers is also inactive while rookie OT Andre Smith is up for the first time all year. Other Bengals inactives: QB Jordan Palmer, TE Chase Coffman, WR Jerome Simpson, DT Orien Harris, FB Fui Vakapuna, and C Jonathan Luigs.

Cedric Benson - RB - Bengals Cedric Benson (hip) said Sunday that he was healthy enough to play against the Browns, but the Bengals coaching staff decided to get him back to full strength for the final five games.
Benson was nonplussed when asked about a potential backfield timeshare after Larry Johnson and Bernard Scott combined for 194 yards: "I don't know. I don't know. That's a weird question. I didn't know I was having to share time," Benson said. "If it wasn't like that before I don't know why it would be like that now." November 30

After the big announcement, Lewis asked reporters "We're not twittering in this press conference are we? You guys should be fined." Lewis also said it's "possible" that all four of his running backs (also Larry Johnson, Bernard Scott, and Brian Leonard) could be active against the Lions. Still, expect Benson to be close to 100% and dominate carries in the favorable matchup. L.J.'s snaps will be greatly reduced despite Sunday's 107-yard effort.

Benson appears to be on track for a full practice week and to get a "probable" listing on Friday. If so, the Bengals will have treated his injury situation exactly right, by making sure he's 100 percent upon return. Benson is expected to dominate carries in the Bengals' backfield Sunday against the Lions.
